Actuarial Golfer: Wolf Creek

We decided to take a trip to Las Vegas. It was our first trip there and we stayed at the Bellagio. After walking up and down the strip, I was glad we stayed where we did as not all the casinos/hotels seemed to be very nice. Some ached for modernization. Las Vegas is interesting and I've noticed actuaries as almost exclusively being in two camps about gambling; those that are addicted and those that never play. I'm in the never play camp as I understand that the house has the edge in every game, unless you are able to count cards (and not get caught).

With Las Vegas comes entertainment, food, and nice golf courses. Unfortunately, I only had time to get it one round of golf. There are many courses to choose from, but I narrowed my choices down to two: Wolf Creek and Wynn Golf Club. Wolf Creek was not cheap, but Wynn Golf Club at over $500 for a round was a bit too pricey in my mind.

Review of Wolf Creek

The view from the first tee was something that looked too artificial to be real. The course was built in and around a bunch of canyons which yields some impressive tee shots that drop over a 100' to the fairway (or rough if you're like me). Besides the views, the course was meticulously kept up.

Pros

The course will challenge golfers of all abilities, yet while having 5 sets of tees to suit nearly everyone's game.
Impressive views

Cons

The course is in Mesquite which will take around 90 minutes to get to from Las Vegas by car.
One needs to use a golf cart as walking the course would be too difficult.
Greens were a bit on the slow side
